Family & Marital Therapy Family is considered an essential part of the treatment process. Addictions and behavioral disorders do not exist in isolation. The entire family is affected and suffers greatly. They often feel helpless and live in fear and anxiety. For those family members who feel they have tried everything to help their loved one, this program offers an opportunity for hope, healing, and family reunification. Our Family Program is designed to bring awareness, understanding, and behavioral change for clients, families, and significant others. Through education, therapy, and experiential exercises, participants learn how to change unhealthy communication and behavioral patterns, and strengthen family and personal relationships.
Individual family sessions are part of the overall treatment process and made available to all our clients. If it isn’t possible for a family member or spouse to participate in person, technology is available to perform conference calls for long-distant participation. For those wishing to participate on-site twice monthly, the Vince Carter Sanctuary also offers free room and board to immediate family members during an extended weekend for our Residential Family Therapy Program. For details, please call (800) 478-0331.
Aftercare Program One of the important aspects to anyone attending a residential treatment program is the aftercare plan. The aftercare plan can provide a continuum of treatment and support that is vital to the newly recovering person. When clients are discharged from the safety of an inpatient treatment facility, they often return to the very environment from which they lived a destructive lifestyle of addiction. They face a multitude of “triggers” which may lead to eventual relapse. At the Vince Carter Sanctuary we recognize that it’s essential for the success of our clients to have a comprehensive, detailed aftercare plan when discharged. Development of each client’s aftercare plan actually starts upon admission. As the client’s personal and clinical information is gathered, our aftercare staff begins the process of identifying potential continuum care providers. As the client progresses in treatment, the primary counselor frequently communicates with the aftercare team, keeping the team apprised of any special needs. Upon the establishment of the final discharge plan by the primary counselor, the aftercare team contacts the selected outpatient treatment providers and schedules timely appointments. In addition to professional clinical outpatient treatment, the client is provided with information about support groups in their home area, such as AA and NA. Occasionally, certain clients are in need of transitional housing, which may be coordinated by our aftercare staff. Other clients may wish to hire a third-party “Sober Escort” or “Recovery Guide” to transport them safely home the day they are being discharged. We have alliances with some these services and will help match up a client with a service appropriate to their particular needs. Some of these services will even remain with the discharged client for a number of days, weeks, and sometimes even months depending on what the client and perhaps the client’s family decides. FREE Early Intervention Relapse Prevention (1st year) If a former client who has successfully completed the Vince Carter Sanctuary’s residential treatment program feels that he or she is nearing a relapse within the first year after being discharged and would like to participate in our Early Intervention Relapse Prevention Program, they may do so for up to two weeks with no treatment fees. FREE Refresher Treatment (1st year) If a former client, who has successfully completed the Vince Carter Sanctuary’s residential treatment program, relapses within the first year after being discharged, and would like to refresh their treatment, they may do so for up to two weeks with no treatment fees.
