How do you Drug Proof Your Kids?

What's the biggest deterrent to kids' using drugs and alcohol? It's Parents.  Look at the facts: Kids who learn from their parents or caregivers about the risks of drugs are 36% less likely to smoke marijuana, 50% less likely to use inhalants, 56% less likely to use cocaine, 65% less likely to use LSD than kids who don't hear from their parents.  Parents are the most powerful influence in your child's daily life.

How to Drug Proof Your Kids educates parents on the facts about drug use and gives them practical techniques and strategies to steer their kids away from the temptation of drug use before they're tempted. While no one can guarantee that a child will never try tobacco, alcohol or an illicit drug, this program is proven to help parents be more effective at influencing their children's choices.

How to Drug Proof Your Kids (DPYK) aims to equip parents with the strategies needed to more effectively steer their children away from the harmful use of drugs. The program offers information on understanding substance abuse, support to help kids make positive choices and provides prevention tools for parents. As the strongest force against drugs, parents need proven strategies. DPYK can help.

All children are at risk of using drugs. Some experts estimate that between 85 and 95 percent of teenagers will try alcohol and other drugs to see the effect it has on them. Understanding why our children begin to misuse drugs and alcohol will help you in your efforts to stop such behavior. DPYK not only explores the path of drug dependency, but examines the eight important factors that may lead to drug abuse:
  • Genetic make-up
  • Peer pressure
  • Parental attitudes
  • Cultural factors
  • Life crisis
  • Depression
  • Fun and available
  • Parenting style
